HTDS helps fight Sickle cell disease

On Friday, June 19, World Sickle Cell Disease Day was held.
Sickle cell disease is an inherited hemoglobin disease and is also, unfortunately, the most widespread genetic disease in the world. It particularly affects certain geographical areas such as the Mediterranean basin, where the abnormal hemoglobin S does not fully play its role as an oxygen carrier.
Its sickle-like shape makes it fragile and makes it difficult for it to circulate in the blood. Diagnosis can be made by means of a CBC, PCR analysis, liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis for example.
This World Day is an opportunity to inform the general public and warn them of the most common clinical aspects. Dedicated to what is also known as sickle-cell anemia, it also aims to raise awareness of neonatal screening.
From the very first weeks, this allows preventive measures to be put in place by detecting or not detecting the S mutation of the gene coding for beta-globin. Discover our screening solution: https://bit.ly/2YSIjXE
